Content

The idea behind Pink October, a month-long promotion of breast cancer awareness, was developed in the United States in the 1990s to educate women about the disease and raise funds for screening and research.
The symbol of awareness was born: the pink ribbon, and since then breast cancer awareness month has been celebrated around the globe.
In France, since the Le Cancer du Sein, Parlons-en! (Let's talk about breast cancer) initiative was launched in 1993, the aim of the campaign has been to engage women and their social circles by raising their awareness of breast cancer through education and dialogue, and by highlighting the importance of screening.

In 2011, Dr Jean-Philippe Girard, director of the Institute of Pharmacology and Structural Biology, won the Junior Pink Ribbon Award given to doctors, researchers or teams whose work has gained international renown. It supports innovative research work in the field of breast cancer.
Established in 2004 by the "Le Cancer du Sein, Parlons-en!" association, the Pink Ribbon Awards are designed to support blue-sky and clinical research work in the fields of epidemiology, early screening and breast cancer treatment.
