Paramedical studies


SPEECH THERAPY


A speech therapist treats voice, speech and language pathologies, either oral or written, relating to articulation, functional or organic phonation. In order to practice, a speech therapist must have been awarded an Accredited Speech Therapy certificate (certificat de Capacité d'Orthophoniste). They can only intervene upon medical referral; they are medical auxiliaries.

Admission requirements

A 'certificat de Capacité  d'Orthoponiste' is awarded after four years of post-baccalaureate study.


The course includes theoretical teaching, tutorials and practical placements.
To be admitted into the 1st year of speech therapy studies, you must:
    • have passed the baccalaureate (or equivalent)
    • submit an application to the course secretariat (secrétariat de formation) to be able to take the competitive entry examination

The qualifying examination includes preliminary and secondary acceptance tests.

 


Orthoptic rehabilitation aims to diagnose and treat visual ailments. Orthoptists only intervene after referral from an opthalmologist.

    • have passed the baccalaureate (or equivalent)
    • submit an application to the course secretariat (secrétariat de formation) to be able to take the entry examination

 


PSYCHOMOTILITY


A psychomotility therapist treats psychomotility problems in children, adolescents, adults and elderly people. Problems are mainly: lack of motor coordination, motor agitation, concentration difficulties, balance problems, abnormal movement, dysgraphia, difficulties with spatial and temporal awareness and muscle tone problems. Psychomotility therapists only intervene after referral and medical examination.

  • A 'diplôme d'Etat de psychomotricité' is awarded after three years of post-baccalaureate study.

  • The course includes theoretical teaching, tutorials and practical placements.
To be admitted into the 1st year of psychomotility studies, you must:
    • have passed the baccalaureate (or equivalent)
    • submit an application to the course secretariat (secrétariat de formation) to be able to take the competitive entry examination
