Research clusters and axis

Research at Université Paul Sabatier covers a very wide range of scientific subjects.
The laboratories have been grouped and organised into 4 major research clusters and one research axis:

SdM Cluster: Materials Science - Physics, Chemistry, Materials (Science de la Matière)

This cluster groups chemistry and physics laboratories, some of which address the disciplines specifically, as well as the materials science sector, which is generally linked to chemistry, but also to chemical engineering and certain aspects of physics.
The study of  nanosciences and nanomaterials  is a major multidisciplinary subject within the cluster.

The disciplines in this cluster work hand in hand on multidisciplinary research. This research seeks to develop new concepts based on mathematics, computing and core sciences. The cluster's work is strongly motivated by technological, conceptual and methodological constraints and bottlenecks, as are the many challenges facing society.
A wide range of partnerships link its research to industrial activities, providing a major contribution to the exchange of ideas in Engineering.

UPEE Cluster: Universe, Planet, Environment, Space (Univers, Planète, Environnement, Espace)

This cluster works on a vast variety of topics, ranging from the study of the origins and evolution of the universe, planets and solar system to the current evolution of our world and the ever-increasing human pressure on it. Its cross-cutting expertise in physics, chemistry, astronomy, meteorology, ecology, geology and biology allow, researchers to apply theoretical approaches and to use observation, experimentation, instrument development  and digital modelling in their studies.

SdV Cluster: Life Sciences - core biology, health, environment, agro-bio-science (Sciences du Vivant)

This cluster brings together a range of high-level skills to work on the complexity of life at all levels, from molecules to ecosystems, by way of cells, organisms and current and historic populations. It will facilitate the integration of the knowledge acquired at these different organisational levels.
In addition to its intellectual contributions, the cluster will create a favourable environment to help Toulouse biologists, who are strongly involved in value-generating health, agrobioscience and environmental programmes. meet their objectives.

CIGEDIL axis: Communication, Information, Language Management and Didactics (Communication, Information, Gestion et Didactique des Langues)

This cluster focuses on teaching languages to specialists in other disciplines, information analysis and communication processes in various contexts (science, industry, general public) and the study of organisations as producers and consumers of knowledge. It is designed to support work in these fields and to boost their influence on social issues.
