Rules for applying for a LICENCE

Foreword

All students who have begun a standard Licence course at the University Paul Sabatier (UPS) shall progress freely through this course, according to rules and progress procedures defined for the UPS Licence courses.
These students are therefore not affected by the following text.

Any UPS students from the IUT or Healthcare Faculties may request to join one of these courses. The same applies to UPS graduates who would like to gain another skillset. Any students from outside the UPS (other universities, other IUTs, STSs, CPGES and foreign students) may also all request to join one of these courses.
These admissions must follow the rules defined in this text.

1. Fundamental rules for admission during the course

  1. Students who have validated a year (60 ECTS) or two years (120 ECTS) of a course will keep what they have validated, whenever possible.
  2. UPS has specific systems in place to help students who are authorised to register but who have previously followed courses outside the standard courses at UPS.
  3. Since the Licence courses are defined along a 1+2 structure (first year followed by a set of two years), UPS recommends registering for the second year where possible.
  4. Except for admission to L2, students must submit an application. This application is for a set: field PLUS speciality. If this speciality has several standard courses, students must specify the course(s) they are interested in as well as the year they wish to join.
  5. For a single academic year, a student may only submit three applications to UPS.

 2. Admission procedure

       2.1 Admission to L2

Students who have validated a full first year of a Licence (60 ECTS) in a field compatible with the course they are requesting to join may join the second year of this course straight away.

  • The list of compatible courses will be explicitly defined by UPS
  • Students who have requested a course change may contact the course tutor for the year they are requesting to join, so as to arrange a specific programme within a framework similar to local students who have changed course.
  • Students registered for the first year of a preparatory class at a lycée of the Académie de Toulouse who have a duplicate registration or students at a UPS Healthcare faculty will be accepted under certain conditions.
  • In all other cases, students must submit a paper application.

       2. 2 Admission into IUP type streams (Licences with an Engineering specialism)

  • Access to these streams is possible either for entry at L2 level (after an initial university year), or for entry at L3 level (after 2 years of study).
  • Irrespective of the student's course (university, IUT, STS etc.), they must make a specific application.
  • Admission to these courses will only be allowed if the previous course has been fully validated.

       2. 3 Admission to L3

Reminder:  Since the Licence courses are defined along a 1+2 structure (first year followed by a set of two years), UPS recommends registering for the second year where possible.

Any admission request from a student not engaged in a standard course at UPS requires an application.

  • Students who have completely validated the first two years of a Licence (120 ECTS) in a field compatible with the course for which they are applying, will keep what they have obtained. This will be validated through equivalents among the 180 ECTS of the course applied for.

             - The compatibility of admission courses is defined by the academic tutor of the year applied for.
             - When the original course is not compatible with the course chosen, the student may request an interview with the academic tutor for the year in question. A specific study plan will be defined which takes into account skills acquired and skills to be acquired in this course.
                - Students who have not validated the second year of a Licence in full may keep certain validated ECTS in accordance with the enjambement rules defined by UPS, only taking into consideration the teaching units that are compatible with the course applied for: this possibility is not an option for access to IUP type streams (3rd year of a Licence with an Engineering speciality).

       2. 4 Admission to a Licence Professionnelle'

  • Requests for admission to a Licence Professionnelle' can be made via a specific application. Admission to these courses will only be allowed if the 2nd year of the previous course has been fully validated.

3. Application form

  • Students who are not authorised to join an L2 straight away or who wish to join an L3 must submit an application. This application has two stages:
    - pre-registration via the website by downloading the form online or requesting it post
    - submission of the completed application to the academic registry of the department in question, along with all the documents required.
  • The application will be examined by the teaching staff in the field applied for.
    The teaching staff may:
    - authorise the registration requested;
    - authorise registration for the speciality but in a different year from the one applied for, or in a different speciality to the one applied for:
    - refuse registration;
    - request additional information from the applicant.
