It has been recognised as one of the top 300 institutions for scientific performance by the National Taiwan University (NTU) international ranking and the Shanghai Jiao-Tong University academic ranking of universities (ARWU ranking).

University of Toulouse has once again made the 2025 Shanghai ranking in both the overall and subject area categories.


The university ranks between 301st and 400th in the global rankings and is among the top 13–14 universities in France.

In the subject-specific rankings, the university ranks in the top 50 for three disciplines among the 4,000 universities worldwide included in the rankings: remote sensing, oceanography, and Earth sciences. It is ranked in 26 of the 55 disciplines considered in the rankings.

In the 2025 edition of the Leiden Bibliometric Ranking, the university is ranked 8th among the 34 French institutions included and 329th out of 1,594 universities worldwide.

It is also the 9th-ranked French university in terms of gender diversity among its authors. This ranking, compiled by the Centre for the Study of Science and Technology (CWTS) at Leiden University, is based on publications indexed in Clarivate Analytics’ Web of Science database.

Thus, the University of Toulouse ranks 8th in the national ranking with 4,949 publications recorded over the 2020–2023 period.
